Stretch Mark Treatment with MCA Microneedling
Stretch marks are a type of scar which can occur when the skin is stretched or shrinks quickly. The speed of change causes the elastin and collagen in the skin to split. This shows as coloured or silvery marks in the skin. It can occur during pregnancy or a growth spurt in puberty for example. Stretch Mark treatment with Microneedling can help to improve stretch marks.
Is it possible to get rid of stretch marks?
Whilst unlikely to disappear completely, the appearance of stretch marks can be greatly improved by MCA Microneedling or Dry Tattooing.
This involves using a specialist tattoo needle to create micro punctures in the stretch mark. This enables fresh collagen and elastin to flood into the scar and allow it to reheal gently.
No pigment is used in this treatment. The stretch marks can start to re-pigment naturally as melanin [our natural skin colouring] moves back into the scarred area.
What results are achievable?
- Sunken areas begin to plump up and fill
- White and silvery stretch marks begin to re-pigment and may begin to tan, blending in more to the surrounding skin.
- Pink Stretch marks can begin to fade.
- The edges of the stretch mark can begin to blend into the surrounding skin.
All stretch marks are different. It’s important to understand it takes time for the body to heal and regenerate the scar. Gentle exposure to sunlight after treatment also helps the stretch mark colour to normalise. After treatment the stretch mark will look red, which is an indicator that healing is starting to take place as fresh collagen floods the area. Generally 3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are required to achieve good results.
